Our Story
Company History:
In June of 1983 we purchased our first 2 properties in an old mill town in Western Massachusetts. For the next 5 years Jason personally renovated and maintained these buildings and grounds. By 1988 we had improved the energy efficiency, floor plan, removed lead paint, replaced roofs, windows and heat systems. These buildings were now more desirable and efficient rental housing with very low turnover and operating costs.
In 1989 we began exploring new opportunities and found several potential projects available in Brattleboro, VT. Our research revealed that Brattleboro was a desirable area with many educational, cultural and recreational resources and activities. There was also a vibrant community that valued the healthy lifestyle. By fall of 1989 we had secured our next project, a 10 unit town house building. Over the next 6 years as we were improving this property we were also beginning to provide management services to other owners. By 1995 we owned 15 units and we providing management services to another 15.
In 1996 Jason Cooper Management made some major organizational changes including hiring a property manager and a full time maintenance staff. Between 1996 and 2006 we had acquired one new project each year. Each year we have continued to successfully refine and improve our energy, health and comfort standards while reducing operating cost and turnover. In 2006 with fuel costs skyrocketing we have adjusted our focus to push to cutting edge of energy efficient and conservation.
In 2008 we completed our most recent project, an 1800s barn with 4 two bedroom apartments. While preserving the architectural integrity of the structure, we added state of the art insulation and energy star rated windows and appliances. We converted the heat and hot water systems to wood pellet, replacing thousands of gallons of oil each year with just a few tons of wood pellets. Our energy reduction for this building was over 80%.
We are presently installing a district heat system that will provide heat to 20 units in 5 buildings with wood pellets in downtown Brattleboro, replacing over 10,000 gallons of annual oil use. This heat system and energy conservation measures will reduce the total energy needed to heat these buildings by more than 30% and the cost by more than 60%. Heading into the fall 2009 we are planning to begin installing solar hot water systems on several buildings.

In pursuit of supporting our local community, we strive to use recycled and locally produced materials, work directly with local funding and employ local contractors and suppliers whenever possible. Additionally, we hope to provide an educational model that would produce detailed analysis of different systems, installation and operating costs to further the advancement of energy saving technologies.
We strive to create spaces that are comfortable, healthy and energy efficient to live and work in.
We are actively trying to reduce our carbon footprint by cutting our energy consumption and shifting to renewable energy sources where ever possible.
